Hill forest fire in Tiruvannamalai District

Challenge !!! A repeated challenge for Trees on Hills Project.  Yesterday (20 Apr 2021 ) at Malamanjur Hills in Tiruvannamalai district , our youth forum team member reported man lit fire for burning the lemon grass grown atop the hills. 

Just two weeks ago after meeting the Block Development Officer in Thandrampattu block, we alerted the Village Panchayat President for preventing the forest fire which has been happening every year during summer for harvesting the Lemon grass. In the process , every year no of young trees, which have been planted and grown naturally are also getting burnt. Responsible Citizens iyakkam with the help of local village youth volunteers have been trying to bring awareness among the villagers about the importance of the trees on hills. Yet one miscreant with a match box is sufficient to cause the fire every year. RCi have been sensitizing villagers, alerting the forest & village administration authorities. RCi hopes with sustained efforts,  villagers will be able to guard the trees, shrubs and grass  from the Man made fires & hope to see a green hill sooner.

நேற்றும் 20.4.21 திருவண்ணாமலை மாவட்டம் தண்டராம்பட்டு வட்டத்தில் உள்ள மலைமஞ்சனூர் மலையில் மஞ்சாம் புற்களுக்காக சில மனிதர்கள் இந்த வெயில் காலத்திலும் தீ மூட்டி, மலை முழுக்க மஞ்சாம் புற்கள் எறிந்துள்ளன. இந்த மலையில் இருந்த சில மரங்களும் இந்தத் தீயினால் பாதிக்கபட்டுள்ளன. 

இரண்டு வாரங்களுக்கு முன்பாக நாம் வட்டார வளர்ச்சி அலுவலரை சந்தித்த அன்றே மலைமஞ்சனூர் ஊராட்சி மன்ற தலைவரை சந்தித்து இந்த வருடத்தில் நாம் வைக்க இருக்கும் மரங்கள் குறித்தும் , வருடாவருடம் மலையில் தீயினால் பல மரங்கள் பட்டு போவதை தடுக்க உதவி வேண்டியும் விளக்கி விட்டு வந்தோம். ஆனால் ஒரு சிறு தீப்பட்டி, மலையின் செல்வங்களையே அழிக்க போதுமானது என்கிற நிலையில் நாம் மலையை சுற்றியுள்ள கிராம மக்களுக்கு மலையின் மீதுள்ள மரங்களின் அவசியத்தை புரிய வைத்து தான் நிரந்திர தீர்வு காண முடியும் என்கிற முயற்சியில் வனத்துறை, கிராம நிர்வாகம் என்று அனைவருக்கும் இந்த நிகழ்வை தெரியபடுத்தி உள்ளோம். இந்த மலையையும் பசுமையாக பார்க்க ஆர்வமாக உழைப்போம்.
