Image
Tribals need to be at the Top of the Hills Today 25th July 2022 is a Historical Day in the Indian History especially for the Tribals as the 1st Ever Tribal and that too a woman has been crowned as the Chief of the Mother India. Responsible Citizens iYakkam heartily congratulates the Madam President and all the Parliamentarians and Legislators in choosing a person with a great Calibre to Occupy the highest position available at Raisina Hills in New Delhi. On this historic day on the occasion of 75th year of Independence, Republic of India registers a important milestone. But this must also be occasion, we Indians, need a change in attitude towards the lifestyle of Real Tribals.  Major attributes in this era of Climate Change, India, must appreciate the minimalist consuming behavior of Tribals' lifestyle. Tribals least exploit the natural resources. They make houses out of the naturally available materials in the forest and they make their clothing available in their wild...

பர்வதமலையில் மரங்களின்  இக்கிகய்  நெகிழ்வுகள் 23 OCT 2021   Parvathamalai Trees Planting IKiGAi moments   Our friends from Tamil Nadu & Andhra Pradesh were interested in joining RCi Tree expedition trip atop Parvatha Malai in Tiruvannamalai District. This year we chose to go through regular pilgrims route from Thenmaathi Mangalam village. Parvathamalai Temple built by ardent devotees on top of a huge monolithic boulder above the hill terrains of Eastern Ghats. They have taken enormous efforts to take so many construction materials through a risky slippery path on the rocks just holding the crow bars pinned on the rocks. பர்வதமலையின் உச்சியில் உள்ள நெட்டு குத்தான பாறையில் வழுக்கும் மிக கடினமான வெறும் பாறைகளில் குத்தப்பட்டுள்ள கடப்பாறை...

stop drinking tea Revive a river

Image
A simple solution yet may sound ridiculous to many lovers of Tea. Yes Tea gives you a refreshing, rejuvenating feeling but Tea estates on Hills are the reason for fall in Rain fall across many states.  Reason is simple. Before British arrived in India, Nilgiris Mountains in western ghats used to receive highest rainfall even higher than the most wettest place on Earth, Chirapunji in Meghalaya. Today the Coimbatore district at the foot hills of Nilgiris is reeling under severe water scarcity. Same case with Darjeeling and many Assam (Asom) tea estates. Very recently there are reports coming from Sri Lanka that there is a concern in food shortage. Reason Ceylon Tea is world famous and exported world wide. But continuous exploitation of Hills for Tea has caused severe reduction in Rainfall in the Island country. British, to destroy the Chinese economy , then a Tea Monopoly, introduced Tea cultivation in many parts of Asia. Japanese Tea Culture may be the root cause of repeated Tsunam...

Seed Balls Sowing in Malamanjanur hill on 10 Nov 2019

Image
On 10.Nov.2019 Sunday, Responsible Citizens iYakkam with the Local village volunteers organised & sown seed balls containing varieties of trees' seeds on top of the malamanjanur hills. We chose the malamanjanur hill in this region( southern part of Thiruvannamalai district)  ,  though there are no of hills close by,  this is the only hill in the region without much big trees growing & only Lemon grass kind of  grass known in local Tamizh language as "manjam pillu " . This grass smells like lemon when it is squeezed.  The name of the hill itself is derived after this grass. Main challenge is that for cutting these grass for thatched roofing purposes some people in the malamanjanur  village burn the grasses every year.  So most of the trees available atop the hills too get burnt & die in the process resulting in barren hills in summer months.  Only during rains,  some rivulets flow down the hills but no condensation ta...
