Fruit bearing trees in forest for animals
காடுகளில் விலங்குகளுக்காக பழ மரங்கள்
To commemorate the 56th Birthday of Bhramarishi Mohanji , Responsible Citizens iYakkam (RCi) in association with Ammucare Charitable Trust & Mohanji Foundation with the support of the Local village youth forum M/s. Pasumai Pachar Poruppulla Elaignaral Sangam (PPPES) planted 56 fruit bearing trees in a reserved forest area adjacent to Thenpennai river basin of Tiruvannamalai District in Tamilnadu.
This ponnaiyaru reserve forest was once a very rich habitat
of wild animals. It housed one of the exotic flora & fauna and was once an example of bio-diversity.
Today most of the wild animals are
extinct, native trees have been cut down & it is now fully covered with thorny
bushes, resulting in very low rainfall , loss of habitat for wild animals with
very less food availability. In addition local villagers graze the entire
forest with their cattle.
So we chose an ideal location inside the pond, digged all the
pits for cooling & Planted the following saplings :
20 Nos of Blue Berry ( Naval Tree )
10 Nos of Peepul tree ( Arasa maram )
10 Nos of Wood apple tree ( Vila tree )
10 nos Goose berry
3 nos Banyan
3 nos Fig tree saplings
All the tree varieties chosen are known for withstanding harsh summer temperatures of Tiruvannamalai district.
On 7th March 2021, Mr. Kishore of Ammucare Charitable Trust graced the occasion along with Mr. Krishna Kumar of Responsible Citizens iYakkam & many youth from PPPES, Local children, elders, shepherds, and fisherman participated the event held on 7th March 2021. Each sapling was well covered with tree guard to provide ventilation & sunlight at the same shielding it from animals grazing. We ensured all kinds of local people who can be a potential
threat to trees existence to plant trees with their own hands to make them part
of afforestation & take responsibility for the growth. We explained the
need for the fruit bearing trees to increase the animals & trees population
and also to prevent man- animal conflict as wild animals enter the neighboring
villages in search of food.

ReplyDeleteWatering in the initial pace of growth is a must.. please ensure drip like arrangements but putting a earthen pot near to the saplings so that we can water it weekly.. thanking you all for your efforts..
ReplyDeleteVery true. That's why in this summer month we have planted it near to a pond with water. Villagers have taken responsibility to water it in regular intervals
