 Recently  Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Mr. Nitin Gadkari has candidly admitted in the parliament that " He tries to Hide his FACE during international conferences on road accidents "  Referring this article in the Magazine in India Today  https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/nitin-gadkari-on-road-accidents-india-lok-sabha-discussion-2648900-2024-12-12 It is very clear why India is not able to reduce accidents despite the Minister took a vow to reduce it by half.  Minister expression & the way he puts it on citizens to change clearly indicates that there is no near future chance to reduce the accidents. Since he put the onus on the Responsible Citizens of the country, we wish to offer few suggestions, if implemented, he can hold his head high on any international forum on road safety. On 13th Dec 2024 - Karthigai Deepam -Light was lit atop the Tiruvannamalai Hills. At the same time in the same district, Near Thanipadi town, using the wetness of overnight rain, Youth from the town planted 40 trees saplings including many fruit tree saplings on the Kona Malai Hill. Dharma saves the Tree (Taru) We could save 200 years with the last  two years efforts.  For the last two years, State Highway 6A in Tamil Nadu  was expanded for a four lane traffic. In this process there were 1000s of trees were cut by the state highways department. In this process, Responsible Citizens iYakkam with the support of Siva Temple Authorities at Malayanoor Chekkadi Village in Tiruvanna Malai District, approached all the government authorities to protect the two 200 years old trees. One is a Banyan Tree and the other is a Peepal Tree.  The State Highways department had put the survey stone denoting the two trees have to be cut for Highway alignment. We wrote letters to District Collector, District Forest Officer, The Environment secretary for intervention. Finally highways came to cutting only the Banyan tree and assured to leave the Peepal tree after pruning the branches.
