Thenpennai River Rejuvenation - Malamanjanur Hill Greening

 

Initially we planned to dig only the pits on the hills on October 3 rd.  But Nature invited us at the down hill with a pleasant drizzle.  When we were hesitating to climb on the hill when it was wet, sky immediately cleared and weather became bright.

The Forest Way, Tiruvannamalai , an organisation into tree planting on Tiruvannamalai hill, helped us with Banyan & Peepul tree saplings. That Organisation's Mr. Kartik & wild life photographer Mr. Kumar helped us in getting us the saplings. . They also shared their experience in preventing the fire from destroying the saplings as they do in the Annamalai hill.

For the last three years the Youth of Malamanjanur have now become a society as " Green Malamanjanur Responsible Youth association" and helped us this year too in tree plantation.

Volunteers from Thandrampattu Shaka of RSS , Mr. Partha sarathy, Mr. Soundarajan, Mr. Murali & Mr. Venmani volunteered to help us in pit digging, trees planting and bund making along the water way. 

Like wise Melpachar village's youth wing " Green Paachar Responsible Youth Association" was represented by its secretary Mr. Jegathesh & Treasurer Mr. Subash , who went to the top of the hill to plant trees.. 

A Natural way Farmer Mr. Silambarasan from Reddiarpalayam village represented " Green India" team and actively participated in all the activities of the event

Based on last two years experience of forest fire damaging the trees, we ensured with every Banyan (Aala)  & Peepul ( Arasa ) saplings, we cautiously removed all the Lemon grass variety around the sapling to ensure the easily flammable grass variety were removed from the close proximity of the sapling and we built a bund around each sapling to ensure water flow is checked in each of the mini  check dam along the water flow path for tree plantation. 

Intermittently it was raining in this region for the last one week or so. So we decided to plant saplings also immediately after digging the pits on the hills. 

There are number of rainwater flow paths in the hill. So we are planning to plant more trees in those paths in the coming weeks with M/s, AmmuCare.

Few years from now we expect the hill fully covered with trees to revive all the rivulets to condense from the clouds to become a feed channel to the Thenpennai River flowing along this hill. 

Though the rain had completely stopped till the youth planted all the trees brought along and once they responsibly planted tree saplings and made bunds, rain then started again after we all descended as a blessing life water for all the saplings planted & green aspirations of Young Indians.
